Hope can see us through this festive season
Dear judge Mbadwa,
My lord, seasons’ greetings to the most credible and independent court in the land, the People’s Tribunal and its family of trustworthy court users.
I now know Nyasaland is one of the most resilient nations on the continent of Africa. Look, we have experienced one of the worst years as we kept moving from crisis to crisis.
My lord, we are yet to get closure on the death of the country’s Vice-President and eight others.
It has not been easy for motorists, who spent half of their productive time on fuel queues while most businesses closed shop because they could not access forex to replenish supplies.
The weather itself has been harsh as, if I may be allowed, we have experienced one of the ‘hottest’ years in a decade.
Most of our farmers are not sure whether they will get the subsidised fertiliser and seed in time for this farming season, but they will celebrate Christmas anyway.
For so long farmers have been at the receiving end of failures of the subsidised inputs programme but as beggars, they do not have the liberty of choosing how the government should treat them.
We know various political parties underwent elective conventions where the leadership they ushered in was at the mercy of a greedy delegate.
It is not surprising that some look clueless on how to navigate the political terrain, but hey, you reap what delegates sowed.
But I am still hopeful that Nyasas can get out of this abyss they created.
And in the spirit of Christmas, I am sure the hope the birth of Christ brought on the lost mankind can as well signal the beginning of good things on Nyasas.
My lord, we will not stop hoping that life will change for the better for the citizens, especially with 2025 in mind.
I wish you, dear judge, and all court users, a Merry Christmas.
Regards,
John Citizen.
