Audit and advisory firm KPMG has bailed out Choma Health Centre in the outskirts of Mzuzu from mobility problems facing the clinic through a donation of a bicycle ambulance.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of the ambulance at the health centre on Saturday, the clinic in-charge Linley Nyirenda outlined a number of challenges the centre is going through.

She said the clinic lacks electricity, cell phones and motorbikes for health surveillance assistants.

“The main challenge is that expectant mothers and critically ill patients have problems in travelling to the clinic because of long distances. This donation will solve this problem,” she said.

KPMG partner Hastings Bofomo Nyirenda asked staff members at the clinic to use the bicycle ambulance for its intended purpose.

He also asked them to form a committee to look into its maintenance.
