The new addition of Mibawa 1 Band Tonia Phiri has died after she and her colleagues were involved in accident in Mwanza en route to Mozambique.
Another member Jackson Kamlanje is in ICU at Mwaiwathu after sustaining injuries while lead vocalist Eunice Kadzuwa Mhango is under observation as she is pregnant, according to Mibawa Cafe owner John Nthakomwa.
“One of the back tyres of the bus carrying band 1 members got burst shortly after passing through Nkula turn off. The driver controlled the bus however, shortly afterwards the other tyre got burst and the bus overturned.
“Tonia died as she was being rushed to the hospital and her remains are at College Of Medicine waiting burial arrangements with her family. It is a sad development for us. All our shows in Tete, Mozambique have been cancelled,” explained Nthakomwa.
