More support for ex-Flames goalie Kandulu needed

Financial support has started pouring in for former Flames and Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper Kenneth Kandulu who is admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for kidney failure.

Although only five people have so far contributed K14 500 (about $36), Former Football Players Association (FFPA) chairperson for the Southern Region, Ojukwu Malunga, who on Thursday presented the cash to Kandulu’s wife in ward 3B, described the gesture as worthwhile.

So far, Mighty Wanderers executive member Crispin Kuyera, Southern Region Youth Football Committee (SRYFC) chairperson Mabvuto Missi, former Hardware Stars player Albert Chikodya and Nation Publication Limited’s senior news analyst Garry Chirwa are the ones who have contributed money towards the cause.

“We are still hoping to get more responses from local football lovers. But as an association, we are grateful for the support we have received so far. We are appealing to well-wishers for more help,” said Malunga.

Meanwhile, Kandulu’s wife said doctors have indicated her husband would remain in hospital up to next Monday when he would be checked for a possible operation.

“Today, he is much better than yesterday when he struggled to eat. Doctors said they will examine him on Monday to see if there is need for an operation,” she said.
