MRA completes full rollout of Msonkho Online
Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has completed the rollout of the Integrated Tax Administration System (Itas) also known as Msonkho Online, marking a key milestone in the ongoing fiscal reforms.
In a written response yesterday, MRA acting director of corporate affairs Wilma Chalulu said the audit module, which is the final component of the system, has been completed and is now active.

She said the module has been further strengthened through integration with Eskot, a data analysis tool within the Domestic Taxes Division to enhance the audit function.
“The full rollout has significantly improved tax compliance and collection efficiency. Currently, more than 90 percent of large taxpayers are filing online,” said Chalulu.
She said small and medium taxpayers have started adopting the platform, with ongoing support to facilitate their transition to digital filing.
Chalulu said the online platform has improved service delivery by reducing turnaround time and enabling quicker resolution of taxpayer issues.
Reacting to the developments, EK Tax Consulting senior tax consultant Emmanuel Kaluluma said in an interview yesterday that the system will help to harmonise tax collection as well as boost revenue collection.
He said a fully integrated system will help MRA to track compliance of taxpayers across different tax lines.
Kaluluma, a former commissioner of customs and excise at MRA, said: “For example, on income tax, most taxpayers only declare their salaries. A fully integrated system will help consolidate personal income from rentals and interest bearing assets.”
Chamber for Small and Medium Businesses Association executive secretary James Chiutsi yesterday, commended the move.
The implementation of Itas is part of broader public finance management reforms in line with the agreement between Malawi Government and International Monetary Fund.
