Rainbow Paints on Tuesday donated three TV screens to Limbe Police Station to be used for monitoring footage captured by the station’s Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras mounted around the township.

Speaking when presenting the donation, Rainbow Paints technical sales and marketing executive Wezi Chirwa said her company thought of making the gesture as security is important for national development.

“We hope the initiative will help to reduce crime rates in Limbe and sounding areas as officers will be monitoring every situation happening around using the screens and in case there is a need for police intervention, the representatives will be assigning relevant officers to attend to the situation,” she said.

On his part, officer In-charge for Limbe Police Station deputy commissioner Gladson Chipumphula said the CCTV project is helping them to fight crime through technology.

He said: “Since we installed the cameras, we have managed to detect crimes and arrest criminals as well as remove street kids who have been attacking many people.

“We are planning to acquire a calibration machine which will be connected to the National Registration Bureau system and when crimes happen, we will be able to go to the crime scene and collect fingerprints and the system will be able to detect who has committed the crime.

Chipumphula further revealed their plans to buy surveillance drones that will be used to police demonstrations and crime scenes.
