Sulom acts on alleged fake derby tickets’ issue
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) security section has opened a case against three people accused of selling alleged fake tickets during the recent Blantyre derby between Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
In a letter dated June 3 2025 addressed to Sulom general secretary Williams Banda, the league’s security officer Stanely Mtosa states that following the discovery of the fake tickets, they launched an investigation into the matter.

Reads the letter: “A lot of fans bought the tickets which were reported to have been sold from Ndirande selling points.
“A follow-up was made to trace and arrest the culprits, but [it] proved futile. However, they were identified as Richard Manda, Evis Kamanga and ‘sniper’.
“A case has been opened at Chichiri Police [SouthWest Police Region Headquarters] against the suspects.”
The letter further says the arrest of the three will lead to the source of the tickets.
In an interview yesterday, Banda said: “We will hear from police since it’s under their mandate.”
However, South West Police Region deputy spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa yesterdy said she needed more time to enquire about the case.
“I need to check with the relevant authorities first,” she said.
The match grossed a record K154.9 million, but Wanderers brands and marketing manager Greyson Chapita said in an interview last week that while they were satisfied with the gross, they were disappointed with the detection of fake tickets.
He said: “We continue to face challenges such as the circulation of fake tickets which is worrisome.
“Thankfully, we were able to detect and intervene in good time before it caused a major damage.
“We quickly stepped in to curb the situation and [we] have since notified the police. It appears to be a coordinated syndicate and we are committed to getting to the bottom of it.”
Chapita added that while it did not significantly affect their revenue on the day, “We take this very seriously and we will continue working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that such malpractice is eliminated completely”.
