Temwa fired up after renewing contract
Scorchers sensational forward Temwa Chawinga has promised more fireworks in the USA National Women’s Football Super League after extending her contract with Kansas City Current until 2028.
During her debut season of her initial two-year contract, she won the Golden Boot with 20 goals and was also named Most Valuable Player.

It is no wonder the club has opted to tie the Scorchers star to a long-term deal.
Known for her quick pace, exceptional dribbling skills and sharp decision-making under pressure, Temwa has since promised to help her club scale new heights after failing to help them win the championship last season.
“This year, we hope to bring the trophy home for the fans, for KC,” she was quoted on Kansas City Current website.
Temwa further said her decision to extend her contract was influenced by the friendly environment at Kansas City, both at the club and the community.
She said: “My team has been good to me and they treated me well last season. My teammates are kind, my coach is amazing, and my Kansas City community has been incredible. All the support, it feels like home here, that’s why I decided to extend my contract with the Kansas City Current.”
Kansas City Current general manager Caitlin Carducci said they had no choice but to extend Temwa’s contract following her stellar record-setting campaign.
She said: “Securing Temwa’s long-term future in Kansas City was a significant priority this offseason.
“She had an amazing debut season, but both Temwa and our club feel that we are just getting started in reaching our potential together. We’re excited to see her wearing the Current crest for years to come.”
Apart from the Golden Boot, which saw her becoming the first player to hit 20 goals in a season, she also set a record of scoring a goal in eight consecutive matches as well as scoring against all 13 league teams.
“Temwa brings so much to the team both offensively and defensively. She is an incredible player, an incredible person and a cornerstone of this organisation,” said Carducci.
Temwa scored her first goal on March 30 in Current’s 4-2 victory against Angel City FC, and her first brace came against Bay FC on April 20.
On June 9 she also netted a brace against Seattle Reign and went on to score in the next seven games to break the record.
She was also won player of the month award for three consecutive months.
