Wadabwa (R): Patience pays

Flames attacker Peter Wadabwa has called for patience and proper timing from domestic stars before they commit themselves to trials in South Africa where he plays for Golden Arrows.

In an interview on Wednesday, Wadabwa said his compatriots can learn from him.

Wadabwa spent some four seasons with second-tier First Division’s Thanda Royal Zulu before clinching a Premier Soccer League three-year deal with Arrows last month.

“Sometimes in life you must learn to be patient, like what I did. To those who came here for trials and ended up not getting a contract, it is not the end of the world. They must wait for the right time for them to come. Patience pays,” he said.

Of late, there has been debate of how domestic league stars such as Gastin Simkonda, Gabadinho Mhango and Lucky Malata failed to crack the nod at Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaZulu and BidVest Wits University, among others.

The former Escom United and Silver Strikers striker left Malawi when he was in good form, but had to learn and adapt to the frantic-paced South African game before big clubs took notice of his skill.

“Eish, I am still playing as a winger because the coach here said he wants to be using me as a winger. So, I have no choice. I am not promising anything, but I will keep on working hard so that I must be on top of my game,” said Wadabwa who also expressed his happiness at being recalled to the Flames.

Several experts have called for proper home work before sending Malawian players for trials in South Africa.

The Super League did not export a player to South African leagues in this transfer window.
