FAM has announced that K5.9 million (about $14 750) was realised from gate revenue in Saturday’s international friendly match between the Flames and Zimbabwe’s Warriors at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The amount is K2.4 million (about $6 000) less than the recent Blantyre derby that featured age-old rivals—Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers—which grossed a record K8.3 million (about $20 750).

However, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) accountant Christopher Mdolo said as of Sunday, the stakeholders were yet to finalise the actual shares.

“But about K4 million [about $10 000] will go towards expenses such as security. For instance, K1.3 million [about $3 250] will go towards police personnel because we hired about 500 officers.

“Their [police] normal allowances for such tasks range from K10 000 [about $25] to K15 000 [about $37] each, but we give them K2 500 each for lunch and then there are also other service providers that we hired,” said Mdolo.

He also said FAM will get 30 percent from a net of about K2.3 million (about $5 750) which comes up to K690 000 (about $1 725).

The following were the charges: Open Stands: K500 (about $1.20); MBC Stand: K1 500 (about $3.75), Covered Stands: K3 000 (about $2.70) and VIP: K5 000 (about $12.50) which were more or less at par with those of the Blantyre derby.
