People’s Tribunal

Cut the crap, act on abuse forthwith

Listen to this article

Dear judge Mbadwa,

You very well know my lord that the K6.2 billion Covid-19 funds report has left my government peppered with eggs on its face.

My lord what an embarrassment this has caused to me and my government. As you very well know that ultimately the buck stops at me, there is no excuse whatsoever for what has happened under my watch.

But how do I start defending the extensive rot perpetrated even by my closest friends and acquaintances?

My lord, when I called for a thorough investigation with a promise for action I did not envisage that people I trust and rely on had also dipped their dirty fingers in the honey pot of Covid-19 funds.

You can now understand the conflicting statements I have given on the audit and its report because I have been caught between a rock and hard place not knowing how to absolve some or fire others.

Actually, I tried to play the Nyasaland Electoral Commission ruse on the two beleaguered commissioners to deflect attention from the Covid-19 fiasco.

Unfortunately this trick has not worked because it appears Nyasas have become smarter nowadays and they read through it; hence, calls for action.

Truth be told, I don’t see anyone who can claim that they acted prudently with the Covid-19 funds.

It is disappointing that people, without any jot of shame shared the loot as if it were some tomatoes donated by a rich cousin.

What has shocked me is that the office that was at the centre of doling out letters of suspension to heads clusters is also mired in the Covid-19 funds controversy.

My lord, you have the shocking case of Office of President and Cabinet, yes my very own office, deliberately choosing to engage a private firm instead of a government entity available to do the disinfection.

Paying over K26 million for a job that should not have cost more than K1.5 million at one visit and done with materials supplied by government is abuse of the grandest order.

Now with four visits done, we have a close to K100 million that has been stolen from taxpayers.

If I am to invoke the Magufuli spirit that I have been blubbering about a couple of weeks ago, the controlling officer at OPC will be fired and those who benefited from the rot will be prosecuted.

Mark my words; I am not protecting anyone on this one even the ZathuZathu spirit needs to be exorcised for giving me a bad name because of its underwhelming performance.

I am disappointed that some even drew allowances from Covid-19 funds on a trip they took with me to Suid Afrika; how sad!

My lord, I have paid a heavy price for trusting people who are bent to perpetuate the theft that was perfected by Mapuya and his People’s Demagogic Party (PDP).

From now onwards, I will start acting as I suspend the talkshops that have already characterised my early days in office.

I agree things will change but mochedwerapo , but the change starts with me initiating a new  approach.

Soon we will flood your tribunal with cases against those who plundered Covid-19 funds.

Regards,

Disappointed Lazaro
