Ministry for collaboration to fight human trafficking
Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare social welfare officer James Moyo has called for collaboration among key stakeholders in Mzimba District to fight human trafficking.
He said this on Friday during a Trafficking in Persons (TIP) training which his ministry organised in conjunction with the Ministry of Homeland Security.

The meeting also sought to revamp the district’s coordinating committee Moyo said Mzimba was one of the hotspot districts in terms of human trafficking.
He said: ‘Mzimba is one of the districts where cases of human trafficking are rampant and also where many people migrate to South Africa.
“This is the reason we are training stakeholders on trafficking in persons and also revamping the coordinating committee.”
Moyo also said government was planning to construct protection shelters in the country for survivors of human trafficking.
On his part, Mzimba district community policing officer Peter Chima welcomed the development.
“The challenge we have as a district right is lack of coordination among stakeholders on how to handle and manage human trafficking cases. So, if this committee is revampd, it will help in addressing that challenge,” he said.
Mzimba Heritage Association general secretary Kingsley Jere said the engagement has come at a right time when the district is battling with human trafficking and migration to South Africa.
The meeting brought together officials from M’Mbelwa District Council, non-governmental organisations, police, traditional leaders and religious institutions.
