Despite interests from other South African teams, Flames battle-hardened forward Esau Kanyenda has decided to stay put at Polokwane City.

The 32-year-old has renewed his contract following a successful season with the club which he helped to earn promotion into the South African flagship league. He finished the season as the team’s top scorer.

South African online publication kickoff.com on Thursday reported that Kanyenda has signed an extension for a year.

Polokwane City technical director Bareng Kgobi was quoted as saying they will keep the faith in coach Duncan Lechesa.

Kanyenda’s former club Jomo Cosmos and another National First Division (NFD) side Thanda Royal Zulu were among the teams that were reportedly chasing his signature.

His former manager and Cosmos’ local agent Ben Chiwaya confirmed that his team was indeed interested in getting Kanyenda back on board.
