Rising Choreos has three productions in 2013

Just days after National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) president Ian Chitsekula unveiled his first 2013 production titled Travesty of Justice, another theatre company Rising Choreos has broken their silence to announce its plans for the year.

For the first time in many years, director of the company Joyce in Malawi Mhango Chavula has revealed what she calls three stage play productions just for the year.

In the past, theatre lovers have watched Nollywood stars like Desmond Elliot, Van Vicker and Patience Ozwokor performing in Malawi, courtesy of Rising Choreos.

However, Chavula in an interview kept a tight lid on her plans on who she might invite this year.

Braced with talent obtained in Sierra Leone where she went recently to shoot two movies, Reflections and Kamara Tree, by Elliot, Chavula comes with purely romantic and educative productions namely No more tears, On this Island and Beyond Love.

“I have three productions for the nation this year and the target is that by Christmas, all productions should be done. We started preparations last year and this year will be just for finalising,” she said.

No more tears is expected to be on stage by first week of February.

It will be followed by On this Island which will be shot into a movie within the year.

They will wrap up with the last one which is full of dilemma and suspense.

While skirting the idea of revealing the contents in the productions, Chavula said the central message in all the productions is about love and its consequences.

She says she is preaching about how love is fuelling HIV and Aids and how to survive contracting the pandemic though in love.
