With two days before departure for Zambia for the East and Central Africa Amateur Challenge Trophy (Ecaact) and the Lusaka Open in Zambia, the country’s ladies golf team still needs K3 million (about $7 500) to cover some expenses.

Ladies Golf Union vice-president Stella Ng’oma said the money is to cater for air transport, food and other expenses such as accommodation.

Already Old Mutual has donated sets of uniforms to the team.

The Ecaact, which will be played in 4 Ball Alliance will start on June 3 while the Lusaka Open will run from June 7-9. Both tournaments will be played in Lusaka.

“We still need assistance and we call on well-wishers out there to help so as to make our participation a success. We need to be covered in all areas so that our focus can be on the game,” said Ng’oma.

She said the team is going to Lusaka to better last year’s performance at the African Challenge in Botswana, where they finished 17 out of 28 teams from across Africa.

“We are using the Ecaact to prepare for the African Challenge to be hosted by Kenya. It is important that we do well in Kenya,” said Ng’oma.

Roza Mbilizi, Carol Banda (Blantyre Sports Club) and Sheila Chinkhandwe, Ng’oma and Mina Mkandawire (Lilongwe Golf Club) will play in the Ecaact while Regina Mwanza, Elizabeth Trench (LGC), Lucy Ganiza (BSC) and Ruth Mvula (Kasasa Golf Club) will take part in the Lusaka Open, according to a list released by Ng’oma.
